Boise officer survives third-story railing attack while serving warrant

Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, a Boise Police officer attempted to serve an arrest warrant on the 600 block of S. 13th Street. The officer contacted the suspect, 32-year-old Christopher Woodard, who was located on the third floor of the building.

During the attempt to arrest Woodard, Woodard struck the officer numerous times with his fists. The officer utilized multiple Taser deployments on the suspect before Woodard attempted to pick the officer up and throw him over a nearby third-story railing to the ground below.

The officer, battered and fighting the attempt by the suspect to throw him over the railing, implemented a Level 3 Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint (LVNR) to stop the suspect from causing further injury.

Woodard was safely rendered unconscious and taken into custody without deadly force. The officer was transported to the hospital and treated for multiple injuries. Woodard was transported to the hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of Battery on a Police Officer and a probation violation.
